Branch Local Organiser and Caseworker

Western Sussex Hospitals UNISON Branch and Central Sussex Hospitals UNISON Branch are currently recruiting a Branch Organiser and Caseworker
Location: Based at home covering NHS employers and multiple healthcare sites across Sussex
Starting Salary: £33,839 per annum plus £2,933 Annual Subsistence Allowance and access to UNISON Pension Scheme
Contract type: Full time (35 hours per week), fixed term
Contract length: 12 months (subject to review may be extended or made a permanent position)

About this post
This role is to support the changes that will occur as the result of the merger of two NHS Trusts to form University Hospitals Sussex. It will also assist with the work from the disbanding of the Clinical Commissioning Groups to form the Integrated Care System establishing a new organisation. Additionally the post will support the branch merger process to establish a new UNISON branch.
The branches cover hospitals across Sussex and the Clinical Commissioning Groups. Travel to sites will required when government guidelines permit this to happen.
You need to be an enthusiastic, flexible and resourceful individual to support our branches. The successful candidate will bring their experience and skills to the role and be able to develop and deliver recruitment and organising initiatives and campaigns, train and develop stewards, undertake case work, advise, support and mentor branch officers and stewards in representation and negotiation. There will also be collective consultations and restructures where the role will support and develop stewards on the processes.
You will have excellent presentation skills and communication skills, both face-to-face and on paper.
A sound understanding of trade unions and their objectives is essential.
You will be required to live within reasonable travelling distance of the area you are asked to cover.
